Mrs. Lesley Isherwood

On behalf of all the staff at GEMS Al Barsha National School, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you to our brand new British Curriculum school located in Al Barsha South. We do hope that our information will support you in making one of the most important decisions that you will have to make; namely the school to which you will entrust your daughter or son.

Our aim is to provide all our girls and boys with a world class, internationally minded, personalised and innovative education grounded in the language and rich heritage of the UAE. This will be underpinned by the aspirations of the UAE Vision 2021.Girls and boys will be taught together in FS1 and FS2 and separately from Y1 – Y8 in the first year of opening. The school will eventually grow through to Year 13.

Al Barsha National School will follow an enhanced National Curriculum for England (NCfE). The curriculum will promote academic excellence benchmarked internationally whilst fostering trans-disciplinary 21st century competencies. A well-planned, innovative Arabic/English bilingual curriculum will be enjoyed in FS1 – Year 2. This will form a solid foundation for Years 7 – 13. Additional languages will be taught from Year 6 onwards. Opportunities will be incorporated to entrust our girls and boys with positions of leadership and to encourage them to contribute extensively to the community. They will also participate in work experience and trips as well as make links with businesses and  universities. They will be involved fully with national and international events. Our school will promote a happy, supportive and nurturing learning community where each individual is valued for his or her talents and personal qualities. The excellent language and culturally rich education, both in and out of the classroom, will be complemented by many enrichment, co- and extra-curricular activities. Our team of staff will ensure that every girl and boy is given the opportunity to succeed supported by outstanding facilities and resources.

I am delighted to lead our team of passionate, enthusiastic and highly qualified teaching staff who are eager to provide fantastic educational opportunities for the benefit of your sons and daughters.

We will strive to develop a strong and effective home-school partnership so that our girls and boys can fully realise their potential. We value communication with and feedback from our parents in addition to parent participation in the full life of the school.

GEMS is world renowned for its quality. Al Barsha National School will take full advantage of the network of outstanding practice that already exists within the GEMS family of schools. This will also facilitate the provision of UAE, intercultural and international experiences and understanding for our girls and boys.

It is our aim that our girls and boys will become responsible, caring global citizens and leaders. They will have excellent transferrable knowledge, skills and competencies that will equip them to be lifelong learners able to operate with confidence, independence, self-awareness and innovation in a complex and information-rich world. A strong sense of national identity and a determination to embrace UAE culture and values will be embedded enabling them to enjoy the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life as they progress from our school and into the wider world.

Along with our team, I now look forward to you visiting our school, to meeting you and to sharing with you everything that Al Barsha National School has to offer.
